COCKATOO bowling club celebrated the opening of its new $21,000 green on the weekend with an open day.
After more than 30 years, the club has received a much-needed upgrade, which was made possible by a $10,000 Shire of Cardinia grant and contributions from members.
Players from across the Yarra Valley Bowling Association were invited to the unveiling of the new green last Saturday (19 September).
Following the official ceremony, teams put the new surfaces to the test.
The club was founded in May 1975 following a public meeting.
The late Myrtle Quicke was the driving force behind the opening of the club with the help of local residents, and personally funded the first green.
Cockatoo Bowling Club now has a new lease on life and is looking forward to a busy pennant and social bowls season.
People interested in joining the club are invited to give the green a test run or call Lois on 0418 179 803 for details.
