HEALESVILLE High School students spoke to Victorian Premier John Brumby about footy tipping, philosophy and government policies last Tuesday 25 August.
Mr Brumby juggled his role as head of the Victorian Labor Party with the leader of Healesville Secondary College as Principal for the Day.
Mr Brumby spoke to VCE students in the school library, joined in on a sport class, met teachers in the staff room and students during his yard duty.
He was even lucky enough to taste a spicy vegetable puff, as he visited a Year 8 home economics class.
While there was obviously a little more spice than he preferred, Mr Brumby described the sample as “exquisite”.
Year 8 student Tyarra said it was pretty cool to meet and talk to the Premier of Victoria about the pastries that her group had made.
School captains Clare MacPherson and Joe Kay said it was a great experience to meet and have Mr Brumby at their school.
“You really only see him on TV. I didn’t know he taught here before, it makes him seem like a real person,” Clare said.
Clare said Healesville Secondary College principal George Perini doesn’t have to worry about losing his position to the Premier just yet as he is the top pick for principal.
“Mr Perini is a good principal. He knows what the school needs and he’s the one that has really made a difference,” she said.
The Principal for a Day program is organised by the Australian Council for Educational Research, and supported by the Victorian Government, and is aimed at strengthening links between government schools, business and the community.
