A convoy of six cars travelled to Kinglake on Friday 10 July delivering firewood to residents of the fire-ravaged community.
The convoy met at Yarra Junction, travelling through Healesville and Yarra Glen along the way to Kinglake, stopping to pick up firewood and local residents volunteering their time.
Yarra Junction resident and event organiser Anna Rispoli-Yovanovic said the day was successful with 12 people participating and a couple of companies donating their time and money to the cause.
“I do want to thank the individuals who came, CFT, and Seville Garden Supplies who made the wood cheaper, and friends who put the word out there and co-ordinated the day,” Mrs Rispoli-Yovanovic said.
Locals joining the cause also worked in the Global Care cafe in Kinglake after delivering firewood to residents affected by the bushfires.
“The people who received the wood were humbly grateful and it felt like we were delivering gold.”
Mrs Rispoli-Yovanovic said while there were no immediate plans for another firewood delivery to Kinglake, she would organise another soon if enough interest was generated.
“I know dry wood is really hard to get by at the moment, it’s really difficult. But, if anyone just wants to take up a car load, they can contact Global Care.”
