VANS are not a common choice for motor sport enthusiasts, but they are every bit as exciting as the hottest rally car for Marysville Lions Club members.
So, their engines revved when they received a donation of $28,850 from the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) recently.
The money was raised as part of the CAMS Bushfire Support Appeal to assist the communities, including those of many CAMS members, hit by the February bushfires.
The Marysville district has been a key location for motor sport, especially rallying, over the years.
The money will go towards the Lions Club’s two catering vans, each kitted out as a commercial kitchen and available for use by clubs in the community, including CAMS-affiliated clubs and motor sport activities in the area.
Marysville and District Lions Club member Neil Guscott thanked CAMS members.
“This will be a tremendous asset to the community and will be put to very good use,” he said.
“We encourage all car clubs to come to Marysville and get in touch with us.”
CAMS chief executive Graham Fountain thanked everyone who contributed to the appeal.
“This area has been a key venue for the sport which we hope will continue in the future after the recovery and rehabilitation phase has concluded,” he said.
