HEALESVILLE consolidated its spot in the top five with a 45-point win over Alexandra, which would have fancied itself a bit of an outside chance at half-time with a 26-point deficit. But Healesville’s Mark Gibb (five goals) and Jye Conrau (four) had other ideas. Alexandra’s Marcus Hill did his best to keep his side in the contest with his five goals but Healesville was just a touch more polished.

AT THE end of the first quarter Upwey was down five points but after that nothing could stop it in an amazing turnaround. It booted 11 goals to three in the second quarter to take control and 13 goals to nothing in an outstanding last quarter. Upwey had 13 separate goal scorers with Simon Mitchell and Daniel Sheers kicking six each and Christopher Hayes five.

A THIRD-QUARTER seven-goals-to-two saw the Mounters take the game away from Mt Evelyn with a 47-point lead going into the final term. Gembrook did outscore Mt Evelyn six goals to three but it was too late.

ONLY two points separated Silvan and Woori Yallock at quarter-time but for the next three quarters Silvan couldn’t get near the ball as Woori went on a goalkicking spree, with Mitchell Bonuda outstanding with eight goals and Patrick Sharp with five. Woori’s 10-goal second term was its highlight of the day but the low point for Silvan, which was held scoreless.

WANDIN didn’t score a goal in a game a couple of weeks ago and at quarter-time against Wandin the players must have thought it could happen all over again with the score 7.2 to nothing. Wandin did manage to go with Monbulk in the second term and was only outscored by only one goal, five to four. In the second half Monbulk added 17 to Wandin’s six.

SECOND DIVISION
OLINDA suffered its first defeat of the season to an accurate Kinglake. At half-time the Lakers looked in control with a 32-point lead. In the third Olinda scored 6.7 and held Kinglake scoreless for a 12-point lead going into the last. Kicking to the scoring end in the last Kinglake booted 5.1 to Olinda’s 1.6 to win in a thriller.

HALF-TIME saw Belgrave with a 13-point lead and looking the likely winner against Powelltown. But Powelltown booted 4.7 to 1.1 in the third to take an 11-point lead into the last quarter. Despite wasting many opportunities Powelltown kicked 5.5 to Belgrave’s 2.3 for its second win in a row.

ANOTHER narrow loss to Thornton. Seville got off to the better start and Thornton had to play catch up for the rest of the day. Seville led by 29 points at the final break but it was Thornton that finished stronger but fell short by six points in a nail-biting win.

YARRA Junction got off to a great start kicking 5.2 in the first quarter and holding Emerald to just three behinds. After quarter-time Emerald outscored Yarra Junction but wasted opportunities in front of the goals as a 6.17 scoreline would suggest.

YARRA Glen led all day right up to the last three seconds of the game when Yea kicked a late goal to grab a great come-from-behind victory. Yarra Glen kicked 5.2 to one goal in the first quarter but managed only another three gaols for the day. Yea kept clawing away and slowly ate into Yarra Glen’s lead. It kicked only three goals in the third but held Yarra Glen to three for a five-point victory.
