THE under-18s match between Mount Evelyn and Alexandra was a great game, which unfortunately had to have a loser. At three-quarter time it looked as though Mount Evelyn was in control with a 23-point lead. Alexandra played inspired football in the final quarter booting four goals to one to almost pinch the win. Mount Evelyn’s Matthew Grimwood was terrific booting five of his team’s nine goals.

An even first quarter saw Healesville holding a one-point lead. After quarter time Healesville’s defence was outstanding. Healesville only kicked another five goals for the game but Warby could only manage one goal in the second term and didn’t kick a major in the second half. A great effort from the Bloods.

Seville held Belgrave scoreless in the first quarter, which set up their impressive win. Belgrave did try to battle their way back into the game but their opponents had just that little bit extra class. Seville’s Christopher Pahi was best afield booting three goals and was supported well by Brayden Schembri who also kicked three.

A very low-scoring game but it was Upwey that made the most of their chances. Monbulk had just as much of the ball as their opponents but their goal-less first quarter cost them dearly. Upwey’s Benjamin Wood was outstanding keeping his team in front.

Gembrook held a 17-point lead at half time and was looking the goods. Woori Yallock bounced back superbly in the third term kicking four goals to one to take a three-point lead into the last quarter. Woori’s Benjamin Monkhorst was proving a handful down forward as he finished the day with four invaluable goals. The last quarter produced one goal each as Woori held on to win a nail-biter.

Yarra Junction started the better kicking two goals in the first quarter and holding Kinglake to just three points. Kinglake started to get more of the ball and work themselves back into the game, at three-quarter time Kinglake had turned the game around and led by eight points. The last quarter was a real battle as both teams kicked two goals which saw Kinglake win an enthralling battle by one goal.
