HEALESWOOD, or Hollyville? This Hollywoodesque sign has been the talk of the town since Wednesday evening when it mysteriously appeared on the outskirts of Healesville.
And, that’s just what was intended.
Healesville community group Community 3777 threw caution to the wind, rejecting the usual method of poorly attended community meetings, when they decided they needed ideas for a new town entrance statement.
“We wanted to grab people’s attention and we didn’t think calling another meeting was going to do it,” said 3777’s Kath Holton.
They did form a committee however, with representatives from various groups including wine, timber, tourism, historical, service clubs, business, and with the backing of the Shire of Yarra Ranges who provided some funding for the project.
Ms Holton said while the current noticeboards on Maroondah Highway have served the town well, they were tired and there was an opportunity to create something which really makes a statement.
“It’s all about getting a new entrance statement that talks about who we are in this day and age,” she said.
“We want to stimulate people, get them thinking, get their creative juices flowing and we wanted to create that initial bit of mystery,” she said.
The sign, and placing a clip on U-tube were part of the plan.
The group “came out” on Saturday with an information stand at Healesville Walk shopping centre.
Ms Holton said a display would be mounted in the window of the now empty video shop at The Walk with an invitation for people to post their ideas in the return slot.
“It’s not going to be there forever,” she said, keen to avoid any suggestion the design was a done deal.
“We just want to get people thinking.”
Anyone with an idea, design or other suggestion, can contact Ms Holton on 0438 171 776, or post it at The Walk.
