SHIRE of Yarra Ranges’ arborists will continue monitoring the health and long-term viability of burnt trees on council land that could have an impact on roads, fences and entrances to private properties.
Ryrie Ward councillor Jeanette McRae said the health of some trees had further declined since the fires.
“We need to make sure that, while we retain as many as possible, those that are not viable are removed,” she said.
Cr McRae said the council’s bushland team was also working to replace burnt fences, boardwalks and signs in council owned bushland areas.
“Our officers have undertaken an enormous amount of bushfire recovery work and are to be commended for their work and also their commitment to helping support the community during an incredibly trying time,” she said.
