YARRA Ranges residents can have their say on mobility and access issues for elderly people in the shire through a series of forums scheduled for next month.
The Positive Ageing Mobility and Access Forum will be held at three separate locations to enable as many residents as possible to attend.
Mayor Len Cox said that in 2006, the shire developed a positive ageing strategy as part of its commitment to creating strong, healthy and connected communities.
“The Positive Ageing Strategy aims to assist older residents to feel valued, supported and able to actively take part in and contribute to their community,” Cr Cox said.
“The aim of the Mobility and Access Forum is to communicate the council’s actions in this area and gain community input around mobility and access issues.”
The forums will be held at Burrinja in Upwey on Wednesday 3 June, Montrose on Wednesday 10 June and Healesville on Monday 15 June.
The forums will consider the issues of mobility and access in outdoor spaces, including improving roads and footpaths, in terms of transport and the council’s role in advocating for better public transport.
Residents will need to arrange their own transport to the forum, although some limited assistance may be available.
Anyone who would like to take part should RSVP by 25 May to Clare Crunden or Mandy Farr on 1300 368 333.
