Ecclestone on long course

By Dennis Fuller
WITH eight of the eighteen holes joined in pairs at Emerald Golf Course on Saturday, daring shots had where played to get over the trees and onto the greens.
Alan Ecclestone (18) found the format to his liking when he carded a net 54 to head home everybody including his fellow B Graders.
Ross Martin(11), who hits the ball a considerable distance, headed up the A Grade list with 59 while Damien Holland (22) who hits the ball a considerable distance and then a little more came in first of the C Graders with net 55.
Glen Panting coped well with this format with net 60 as did Steve Town with 61. Martin Yeats and Kameron Geeves both managed net 62.
Yeats was nearest the pin on the fourth and Dave Hunt was best on the seventh. Martin won the Café Marte cappuccinos again by nearest the pin after two shots on the 10th and Kameron Geeves managed the same on the 17th.
President Peter Stevens (9) rolled up for his first bash at Ostentatiously Fabled Golf (OFG) on Wednesday and celebrated the occasion by carding a wonderful round and 39 stableford points.
Emerald’s Lambel Tours OFG pennant team were at home to Olinda last Thursday in a must win game to head to the final.
In a good showing they accounted for Olinda’s match ladder leading team. Mick Petrie lost 4/3 to Graeme Collier, Moss Fuller lost to Phil Wilkin 2/1, but Skipper Graeme Fergus beat Paul Boyce 4/3, Leigh Morison beat Rob King 4/3 and Ken Hill beat Peter Jeffrey 3/2.
The emergency match between Kevin Miller and Dave Whitelaw went to Whitelaw 6/5.
Next week is the annual Servicemen’s day and all people who have served in any of the forces are invited to the club to play and it does not even matter if they don’t have a handicap.
