WOORI Yallock couple Eddie and Dulcie Burr celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary at Yarra Valley Aged Care Hostel in March.
The couple, who first met at Eddie’s 21st in 1935, were married at the Seville Anglican Church on 14 March 1942.
A busy community life and a common farming background, plus a bit of romance and raising a family, have made for a very happy married life, according to Dulcie.
“We just got on well together … we didn’t have time to fight,” she said. The couple were stalwarts of the Woori Yallock community with Eddie involved in the local CFA for 26 years, group officer for many years and a life member, an Upper Yarra councillor for nine years, time-keeper for the Woori football club, and serving on numerous progress association and sporting ground committees, including the picturesque Sheepstation Creek Reserve.
“Eddie was on the committee for the reserve and for the Woori Yallock Show that was held there for quite a few years,” Dulcie said.
Wherever Eddie was involved, Dulcie was right there backing him up and playing her own role in community activities.
Both were involved with the local school, Dulcie on the Mother’s Club and Eddie on the School Committee.
At 94 and 92 respectively, Dulcie said they were happy to celebrate 67 years of married life without too many bells and whistles.
“We just kept it low-key but there were lots of phone calls, cards and a beautiful cake,” she said.
