Free training for recovery works

By Kath Gannaway
THE UNION covering the construction industry is offering free training to help local excavation operators gain the tickets they need to work on bushfire recovery work.
The Mail reported last week that some local operators were unable to get work through GROCON because they did not hold the necessary qualifications.
The Construction Forests Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) is starting training in Marysville to rectify the problem.
Under the auspices of MATDG, CFMEU is providing free skills training.
All training days will be held at the Marysville Golf and Bowls Club.
The training programs being offered are: Construction induction (white card) training, a general industry-wide OH&S training requirement for all people who work on domestic or commercial construction sites; asbestos awareness, providing a general knowledge of asbestos and designed to raise awareness of hazards of exposure to asbestos fibres; traffic control, an endorsed industry standard, incorporating information on basic traffic management and emergency First Aid Level 1.
Other courses are Elevated Work Platform, and Encapsulate and Remove Asbestos. For details or to register phone Mandy Sharpe on 0432 818 545 or email yourbodymatters@bigpond.com.
