IT WAS anyone’s game in the final day of the Yarra Valley Cricket Association’s senior finals on the weekend as Wandin and Mt Evelyn battled it out for the 2009 Strachan Shield.
Mt Evelyn started strong, putting on a good second innings spell before declaring.
Kane Jones led the charge, racking up a swashbuckling century before being dismissed.
Mt Evelyn then declared at 8/237 leaving a 160-run chase for Wandin to win.
Wandin made a steady start before Rowe was brilliantly caught at mid-wicket giving great hope to the Mounters.
But Mt Evelyn could only manage another wicket before stumps half an hour early.
Wandin’s opener Jason Kennedy batted for two-and-a-half hours to ensure his team won the DJ Strachan Shield for the first time in almost 30 years.
