Make over for wildlife shelter

CHUM CREEK Wildlife Shelter is in the process of a make over.
After fires ravaged the property and surrounds, wildlife carer Belinda Gales said since the fire threat eased she had been assisted by many volunteers eager to help re-build the shelter.
Part of that help came in the form of volunteers Mike Harding, Jack Cohn, Gillian Barber and Jenny Alba.
Highbury Homes business owner Jack Cohn said he is used to making houses for people, however, hasn’t minded donating his time and materials to help build a new wombat enclosure.
“It’s been great. I’m really pleased to be able to help out with this project. Hopefully it’ll help Belinda and the animals she’s been going out to rescue,” Mr Cohn said.
Ms Gales, who has been making regular rescues and food drops since the recent bushfires, said the help of volunteers has been outstanding.
“They’ve been amazing. I couldn’t have built the roo run or the wombat enclosure without the help of the volunteers. It’s overwhelming, the support I’ve had but there’s still a bit to do,” she said.
