A BIT of creative film-making over the holidays could pay dividends in more ways than one.
The Yarra Ranges Film Society is inviting young people to ‘show us your shorts’ in an exciting short film competition that kicks-off the 2009 Warburton Film Festival.
Festival co-ordinator Dagmar Limp said the student competition encourages young people across Victoria to express themselves on film and provides opportunities for them to be exposed to a large film audience.
Films need to be no longer than minutes and on the theme My Place/ My Family /My environment.
Prizes will be awarded for Best Drama, Best Documentary and Best Animation.
Ms Limp said prizes for students under 18 years include VCA School for Film and Television short film courses. For winners over 18 years, cash prizes of $500 will be awarded.
There will also be a number of other awards including a $300 cash prize and trophy sponsored by the Natural Resources Conservation League for the film that best depicts the environment and its impact on the film maker’s world.
The overall winner of the Golden Shorts Award carries a $500 cash prize.
Entries are open to all students currently living and studying in Australia and must be received by Friday 8 May on DVD format.
All accepted films will be screened at the Upper Yarra Arts in Warburton on Friday 12 June as part of the 26th Warburton Film Festival with the winning films re-screened over the weekend.
Entry forms are available on www.showusyourshorts.com.au or by contacting Dagmar Limp on 5966 9096.
