GLENN Panting (27) came to Emerald Golf Club with his A game in top gear to street the field with 43 stableford points.
This score topped C Grade as well as catching the eye of the handicapper who played with him. Peter Clowes (13) turned in another blinder to score a win in A Grade with 40 points and Peter Jones (19) rose to the top of the B Grade charts with a solid 37 points.
Others who did not disgrace themselves were Ken Hill (12) on 38 and Dennis Fuller (11) 37, while Ben Balfour (16), Peter Stevens (10) and Andy Smith (13) all managed to square away with their handicaps for 36 points. Jack Keenan was nearest the pin on the fourth, Graham White on the seventh, Jeff Marsh on the 12th, Dennis Fuller on the 13th while Andy Smith picked up the pro pin on the 18th.
Ben Balfour won the Café Marte cappuccinos with an eagle on the 17th when he popped a majestic wedge into the hole after a couple of bunny hops. The eagle’s nest of balls are his as well. Dean Shannon proved the master of all by being closest after two shots on the 10th to allay his lust for coffee at Café Marte.
Wednesdays’ Overly Fastidious Golf (OFG) was won in a canter by Mark Lothian (14) with a whopping 43 points. He was followed home by Dennis Fuller on 37 points and Ken Hill on 36. Leigh Morison won the putting comp on the 19th again.
Thursday night’s twilight, 12-hole event, was won by Damien Holland (22) with 28 points.
On Sunday at the Emerald course, the annual mixed foursomes championship for the Victorian Golf League was held. At the close of play the winners were Trevor Scheppers and Sam Couper who play at Centenary Park from Graham Lamb and Katherine Epae from Altona Lakes.
The players and the organisers enjoyed the course so much they have expressed an intention of having at Emerald again next year which is a great testament to Barry Cook and Damien Holland who look after the course.
