GIRLS just wanna have fun… and Girl Guides is a great way to do it.
Girl Guides have been active in Australia for nearly 100 years and in the Acheron Region there are units in Yarra Glen, Healesville, Yarra Junction, Seville, Mt.Evelyn, Lilydale, Montrose, and Mooroolbark.
Guides experience activities such as indoor and outdoor camping, abseiling, flying fox, outdoor cooking, mystery train trips, family barbecues, horse riding, canoeing, hikes in the hills, campfires … even interstate and overseas camping trips.
That’s fun!
Region Leader Sandy McElroy says being involved in Girl Guides allows the girls to develop friendships outside their school groups.
“It provides opportunities for girls to gain valuable life skills such as teamwork, co-operation, leadership, independence, skills to plan events, budgeting, public speaking, conflict resolution, cooking both indoors and outdoors, build outdoor skills and self-confidence,” she said.
“These skills will all be learnt doing fun activities,” she added.
Other opportunities include local and international travel and Girl Guides can also choose to be involved in specialist programs which suit their interests, such as Gang Show productions for those interested in theatre.
“Ultimately Guiding gives girls a safe environment for girls to challenge themselves in any area they choose,” Ms McElroy said.
Girl Guides has so much to offer both its youth and adult members, but above all it offers fun and great friendship.
