Pair win in first round

By Dennis Fuller
ON Saturday at Emerald Golf Club, the qualifying round of the Alex Wee 4BBB cup was played.
The first half of the round was played in stunning conditions while the latter part of the round was played in beautiful, soaking rain and at times high winds.
The final winners of the round were Ben Balfour and Dennis Fuller who scored 49 points.
Balfour and Fuller beat Graeme White and Jeff Marsh on a countback.
These two pairs played together and ran neck and neck all day.
The other qualifiers were Steve Miller/Brian McCoy on 46, Peter Stevens/Drew Tudor 45, Wayne Degering/David Aitken 45, Rod Ward/Greg Horrocks 43, David Thomas/Paul Farmer 43 and Ken Sumsion/Mike Litchfield also on 43.
Steve Miller was nearest the pin on the 4th, Martin Yeats the 7th, Drew Tudor the 12th, Wayne Degering the 13th while Paul Farmer picked up the pro pin on the 18th.
The Café Marte cappuccinos were won by Yeats on the 10th and Litchfield on the 18th. Next Saturday is a nice quiet little round of stableford so that players can relax in between incredibly errant shot.
