Customers told to expect better water

By Kath Gannaway
WATER company Yarra Valley Water says customers in Wandin North, Seville and Seville East can expect improved water supply by mid-year thanks to upgrades being undertaken by Melbourne Water.
The water supplied to customers in parts of those areas comes from Silvan Reservoir.
At present the water is treated at a nearby plant specifically supplying this area.
This treatment plant has reached the end of its operational life and needs to be replaced.
The work involves constructing a new pipeline at Silvan Reservoir to connect these areas to Melbourne’s fluoridated and chlorinated water supply.
Yarra Valley Water managing director Tony Kelly said: “This $1.4 million project will contribute to meeting the Victorian Government’s commitment to extending water fluoridation to regional communities.
Yarra Valley Water’s customers have received a letter and information pack about the changes and Melbourne Water says it will liaise closely with those living in the vicinity of the construction works.
Yarra Valley Water customers have been invited to an informal open house to be held on Monday 23 March at the Seville Public Hall from 2pm to 7pm.
Yarra Valley Water, Melbourne Water and Department of Human Services staff will be available to answer any questions about the project.
Information also will be available on a range of water-conservation programs and initiatives to save water.
Melbourne Water will apply to Yarra Ranges Shire Council for the relevant permits to undertake these works.
