SATURDAY saw the return of the Marysville Cricket Club to the field of play since the horrific fires a few weeks ago.
Marysville, who compete in the One Day grade, have been hosted in that time by Gruyere at Dixons Creek
Gruyere District batted first and were 9/181cc at the end of the overs with G. Baptist 66, Sean Lowe 36 n.o. and C. Ronalds 4/23. Gruyere lost to Marysville 9/182cc (L. Ronalds 57, R. Hodgins 33 and F. Young 4/37).
In their second match back Kinglake in the C Grade travelled to Woori Yalock and had a good day batting first with Ben Minn-Gibbs making 78 assisted by K. Sherring (65).
Kinglake reached 324 all out, with Woori Yallock to bat next week.
In the D. J. Strachan Shield matches on day one of the final round of home-and-away matches, Gruyere District batting first were all out for 141 (Aaron Violi 43, Jeff Crew 3/16, S. Price 2/17, S. Simmonds 2/17) with Hoddles Creek 1/69 at stumps, with Michael Batten undefeated on 43.
Healesville reached 320 before being dismissed (Julian Russell 82) against Yarra Junction.
Coldstream at home batted first and were all out 172 (B. Gromadovski 41 n.o., Michael Walker 4/51) against Warburton Millgrove.
Seville 10/131 (Garth Woodford 53, Wayne Ross 6/35) v Wandin 2/103 (Jason Kennedy 55).
Woori Yallock travelled to Mt Evelyn and batted first reaching a massive score of 9/436 cc (Andrew Sharp 114, Dallas Spencer 91 n.o., Kane Jones 5/103, Andrew Giblin 2/31).
Mt Evelyn will certainly need to bat well next week to reach this total. But at home – if they do get going – it is possible.
At home, Launching Place United batted first and were all out for 180 with a number of batsmen getting started but not going onto larger tallies (Andrew Hoare 37, Hugh Wadsworth 34, Stuart Parker 33, A Crowhuurst 3/31, D Linton 3/43). In reply at stumps Silvan were 3 for 44.
In the R. A. Finger Trophy Yarra Junction need to chase down Healesville’s 284 all out (Mark Powell 69, Will Maile 58, Richard Maile 44, Darren Lever 3/67, Glenn Thompson 2/32).
Warburton/Millgrove batted first and were all out for 119 (Richard Weideman 39, S.Duff 4/13). In reply Yarra Glen are 6/133 (A. Cowan 41, Trev Ottrey 3/43).
