HEALESVILLE resident Melissa Green won’t wait for a funeral to spur change to a dangerous intersection.
Ms Green often has to turn across traffic from Healesville-Kooweerup Road, travelling at speeds of 80km/h or more, to get to her home on Barak Lane.
All too familiar with experiencing or witnessing near misses she said the final straw was an incident that put her in hospital.
Ms Green had stopped on Healesville-Kooweerup Road on Monday 16 February and was waiting for oncoming traffic to pass before turning into Barak Lane where she lives.
Ms Green said she felt a hit from behind as a four-wheel-drive, travelling at least 80km/h, ran into the back of her vehicle.
Her car spun, stopping in front of on-coming traffic, and was hit again on the passenger side.
She said all three cars were written off in the accident that saw her taken to Maroondah Hospital by ambulance for a review of her neck and spine, as it was a high impact collision.
Ms Green said that even before her accident she had pre-empted something bad would happen at the intersection.
“I actually said to my partner not long before the accident that I hate this road, I’m going to have an accident on it one day and it happened a couple of months later,” Ms Green said.
There are already 100 signatures on her petition and Ms Green said she hoped VicRoads would review the intersection.
“It will happen again. There will be more accidents. I’ve already found out from the people I’ve been speaking to that there have been three accidents (at the intersection) in six months. It’s very dangerous,” she said.
The petition will be kept at the Healesville RSL, where Ms Green works.
