HEALESVILLE supermarket trolley collector Michael Morrisey was fighting for his life on Sunday night after being struck by a car.
The much-loved local, known as “Badger” to many, was wheeling trolleys across the carpark of the Healesville Walk shopping centre when a Daewoo sedan crashed into him about noon. Sergeant Tony van Gorp said Mr Morrisey , 47, was flown to The Alfred hospital where he was in a critical condition.
Friend Merrin Macs said Mr Morrisey was in a serious but stable condition and expected to go into the operating theatre on Monday. “He is a very popular person throughout the town,” she said. The sedan’s driver, a woman in her 70s, suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Maroondah Hospital.
Police urged any witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Healesville police on 5962 5800.
