FIRES are still burning throughout the Yarra Valley.
At the time of print Toolangi was facing an imminent threat from fire, while Gilderoy, Powelltown and Three Bridges in the Upper Yarra were on awareness alert.
Areas surrounding Healesville, Chum Creek, Steels Creek, Dixons Creek and Yarra Glen were also told to remain vigilant as fire activity in the area was still a threat. Strike teams are also currently working between Buxton, Marysville and Narbethong to clear access along roadsides into properties.
News came through late yesterday to say that the Yarra Valley Grape Grazing Festival, a highlight of the year in tourism, had been cancelled due to the bushfire situation.
Meanwhile, the fires continue to burn and the death toll continues to rise.
Victoria Police Disaster Victim Identification teams have begun the difficult task of identifying and removing the remains of those who have perished.
While fires still burn in Kinglake, it was confirmed on Monday by Victoria Police that 33 people from the area had been killed. Marysville also suffered serious casualties, with 12 confirmed dead.
Nine people in Narbethong, seven from Steels Creek, three in Taggerty and one person in Yarra Glen have perished in the fires.
As the Mail went to print 131 people throughout Victoria were officially confirmed as deceased.
