KILSYTH Cobras’ star imports have arrived and are getting ready to step on the court.
Joe Werner and Quincy Henderson joined their team-mates last week in a pre-season practice session.
Henderson, a 194cm point guard from Winona State University, is no stranger to championship with a number under his belt.
He will be looking to lead his team to the finals this season.
In 2007-08 Henderson played a major role in Winona State’s second NCAA DII championship title in just three years.
Werner will return to the Cobras after an impressive 2008 on the court.
He was the shining light last year in a challenging and injury-plagued season for the Cobras.
Werner was recognised for his outstanding season with a place in the All SEABL South Conference team.
He finished the season ranked ninth in points – 21 per game at 54.8 per cent from the field – and first in rebounds with 14 per game.
Recruited from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, Werner, a 200cm, forward, finished his NCAA Division 3 career in 2007 starting all 27 games and recording 13 double-doubles.
Averaging 16.7 points (at 56 per cent FG) and 9.7 rebounds in his senior year, Werner became the school’s all time blocks leader, and finished his career second in field goal percentage and rebounds and fifth in scoring.
Henderson and Werner will join an experienced line up, which also includes returning Kilsyth Cobras Chris Cameron and Michael Wheeler who played with Waverley and Dandenong respectively in 2008.
