Picnic lunch is old school fun

By Kath Gannaway
GOING off to school in the “good old golden rule days” would have provided many Wandin district residents with wonderful memories.
A picnic day and reunion at Mont De Lancey Homestead and Museum on Sunday, 1 March, will provide plenty of opportunity to recall and re-live those memories.
Pack a picnic basket and blanket and join in the old-time games, lemonade and damper making and reminisce in the old school house at the “Old Fashioned Picnic Day and Local Schools Reunion”.
The blacksmiths will be demonstrating their skills, there will be local wines for sale (no BYO alcohol) and some old-fashioned, home-baked goodies will be available from the kiosk.
“We are also hoping to gather as many past students from Wandin Yallock, Wandin North, Wandin East, Seville and Silvan South primary schools as we can,” said organiser Jill Sebire.
The individual schools will be open for tours in the morning from 9am to 11am, followed by the picnic at Mont De Lancey Historical Homestead and Museum.
Ms Sebire said a photo display of all years from the various schools is being put together and access to any old photos would help make the display complete.
“Perhaps people will know some of the children in the photos and can help with names,” Ms Sebire said.
The organisers are also looking for any other school memorabilia they can borrow, or information on any of the schools from the past.
Copies of school photos will be available to order on the day as well.
The organisers would appreciate an RSVP by Friday, 20 February.
For further information phone Ms Sebire at Mont De Lancey on 5964 2088, or Corinne Sebire on 5332 6677.
