The YVCA began two-day cricket on Saturday with some interesting scores being compiled in the D.J. Strachan Shield.
Launching Place United travelled to Wandin and batted first but were dismissed for 133 with Cameron Hoare leading the way with 47.
He was assisted by Stuart Parker on 20. Wandin captain, Shane Luck, bowled well to snare 3/26 while Wayne Ross also chipped in with 3/38.
Wandin in reply at stumps have a lead of 66 runs on 5/199 – Jarrod Rowe 67, Scott Hassen 47 and Gary Frankovick 40, with R. Black 2/43 and Colin Voigt 2/60. No doubt Wandin will be looking for an outright opportunity next week.
Healesville batted first at Hoddles Creek and were all out for just 131 with Julian Russell 58, and Brenton Derix doing the damage for the home side with 6/41 and Scot Simmonds 3/50 in the Hoddles Creek 1st innings. They were all out for 153 – Tom Morrison 51, Brenton Derix 42, Darren Edwards 3/32, Brad Chandler 3/27. Healesville are 1/44 at stumps. Again, this match could go to an outright on day two.
Seville travelled to Mt Evelyn and batted first reaching 142 before all 10 wickets fell. Captain, Richard Dicello, tried to steer his team with 43, assisted by Andrew Kay 39. Kand Jones had a good day with the ball taking 5/26 and Aaron Booth 2/19. Mt Evelyn in reply are 2/60 with the Jones brothers at the crease, Luke on 24n/o and Kane 17 n/o. Adam Burns has 1/13 and Conner Regan 1/5 for Seville.
Warburton-Millgrove is hosting Gruyere Districts who batted first and were all out for 186 with A. Waxiel 48, Aaron Violi 40 and Luke Sarre 39. In reply at stumps Warburton Millgrove is 0/21.
In the R.A Finger Trophy grade, round 10, Yarra Junction bowled Mt Evelyn out for 87 with the old workhorse Norm Spakman taking a fine 7/25. In reply Yarra Junction are 8/150 with Darren Lever 37, Dale Robertson 32, Mick Nightingale 29 and H. Breuker 3/43, Jarrod Barden 3/49 and R Wilson 2/14.
Seville are all out for 107, Paul Dicello 55, Mark Forshaw 27, Alan Pearce 4/8, James Shambrook 4/31 v Healesville 4/55, Mark Powell 41n/o and Nathan McGill 3/21.
Wandin are 2/47, P. Hilder 35n/o, Dan Egan 2/12 in reply to Warburton Millgrove’s first innings of all out for 149, R. Brown 60, Dan Egan 43, T. Kelly 20, Aaron Rowe 3/6, J. Rowe 3/45 and Leigh Selkrig 2/37.
Next Saturday, 24 January see the lower senior grades and the junior cricket starts back after the Christmas recess.
