KEN Sumsion (25) must have made a cracker of a new year’s resolution to play grand golf – he shot a nett 62 to win overall and in C Grade at Emerald.
He did, however, have to survive a countback from an exceptionally unlucky Paul Harvey, who also had a nett 62. They were followed home by another C Grader, Jeff Marsh (26), who managed 65.
Dave Hunt (13) headed the A Grade list with a nett 68, while Barry Cook (16) won B Grade with 75, What were the other B Graders doing?
Marsh won nearest the pin on the 4th, Graeme Fergus on the 7th, Hunt on the 12th and Mike Litchfield on the 13th, while the perennial nearest-the-pin winner, Leigh Morison, won the pro-pin on the 18th.
Litchfield proved his love of par fours and cappuccinos when he won the Café Marte cuppas on both the 10th and 17th.
Wednesday’s Obsessively Fiddly Golf was a two-man ambrose. The format obviously agreed with Damien Holland and Dennis Fuller – their off-the-stick score of 67 transferred to a nett 58 with the assistance of their nine handicap.
They were followed by Peter Clowes and Geoff Isherwood (8.75) on 61.25. Litchfield was the top putter in the putting challenge on the 19th from a fast-fading Ken Hill.
The January monthly medal will be held next Saturday.
