ANGUS Boyle received a $400 scholarship late last year to kick-start his Year 7 Healesville High School tuition.
Healesville Primary School’s Tricia O’Reilly Scholarship was created in memory of the Grade 6 student killed tragically in 2001.
In its eighth year, the scholarship is awarded in December to a Grade 6 student moving from Healesville Primary School to Healesville High School.
Angus received the scholarship during a full school assembly, from Healesville Police Sergeant Tony Van Gorp.
Angus’s leadership skills as school captain, his trustworthiness, and his honesty were listed as reasons for his being chosen for the scholarship.
Angus said he was surprised at receiving the scholarship. His favourite subjects are maths and English. He is looking forward to starting at Healesville High School this year.
“Most of my friends are going to the same high school as me, which is good. I’m very happy about the scholarship,” Angus said.
While last year was due to be the final year of sponsorship, bitumen and transport company Gornroamin has raised its hand as the new sponsor for the scholarship.
Tricia’s family attended the presentation and Tricia’s father Peter O’Reilly congratulated Angus on receiving the award. He said he was pleased at the news that the scholarship would continue.
“We were surprised by the new sponsorship. We had planned to take it over ourselves when things ran out. It’s a great way to remember her,” Mr O’Reilly said.
