BOWLERS were well on top on the opening day of round four in the FTGDCA’s junior cricket competition.
Hosting Johnson Park, the under 17 XI was bundled out for 98 in overcast and damp conditions. Mitch Hewitt (43) fought a lone hand with the bat, while Tom Izzard and Jake Lynch grabbed early wickets to have the visitors 2/12 at stumps. The undefeated under-15 team looks likely to continue its winning ways after dismissing top-of-the-ladder Eildon Park for 117, with
Jake Evans the standout, taking 3/15.
Mulgrave restricted the under 15/2A XI to 9/120 but it was pleasing to see the boys bat out their 50 overs in difficult conditions.
The under 15/2B XI reached 124 against Eildon Park, mainly on the back of 45 from Matthew Chambers. In a spirited start, the bowlers had snared an early wicket by day’s end.
The under 13/1 team battled hard to reach 155 against Ferntree Gully, with Jackson Waters leading the way with a fighting 29.
The under 11s will have to wait another week for their second appearance after their match with Rowville Brown was washed out on Friday night.
