STEVEN Spielberg, Alfred Hitchcock, Adam Elliot: they all have bravado.
And the next world-famous film-makers may get a start right here in Yarra Ranges with the Bravado Youth Film Festival.
Presented by the Shire of Yarra Ranges Youth Services, the film festival, now in its sixth year, will feature 11 short films created by groups and individuals all aged 12 to 25.
The festival, to be screened at Healesville Memorial Hall on Friday 21 November, is a chance for the public to see their work.
Youth services executive officer Loren Miller said it was outstanding that so many young people were inspired to create and to show their own films.
“I have been very impressed by the range of subjects explored by these young film-makers and can’t wait to see their work in full,” Ms Miller said.
She said many of the young film-makers had worked alone, creating their films from start to finish while others sought help from Youth Services film editor Jesse Roberts.
“All of them deserve a cheer for getting involved and for putting their work out there for others to enjoy,” she said.
Screening time for the films is up to five minutes and they range from comedy to horror to documentaries tackling issues such as homelessness.
The participants have the chance to win prizes including cash and a scholarship to the Yarra Valley Arts Council’s Summer School.
The launch will also feature live entertainment with acoustic music performances and stand-up comedy.
Starting time is 6.45pm with films starting at 7pm. Entry is free.
Ms Miller said the films were non-classified and might contain adult themes. She recommended that children under 15 be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
