Car enthusiasts sought to torque

By Monique Ebrington
HEALESVILLE’S Car Torque 3777 is on the road to opening its workshop early next year with the completion of their production shed.
With the shed up, Car Torque 3777 just needs young car enthusiasts aged 15-years-old and over wanting to put their hands up for a 10-week course that will teach them basic car maintenance and how to use the fully equipped automotive workshop.
The Car Torque 3777 committee have been in fine tune after receiving a $25,000 grant from the Victoria Police Fund and $5,000 from the Rotary Club of Healesville earlier this year for the project.
Since then it’s been full speed ahead to get the 15 x 7 shed constructed at the back of the Living and Learning Centre in Healesville.
Leader of the Car Torque 3777 committee John Robinson says it won’t be long before the workshop is up and running and ready for young drivers and car enthusiasts to start.
“We’re at the stage where we’re getting the shed under construction. By Christmas we will have it fully completed and kitted out,” John Robinson said.
The 10-week course gives a maximum of 10 members the opportunity to learn basic car maintenance as well as road safety and safe driving strategies with help from qualified mechanics, volunteers and Victoria Police.
“Our concept is to provide a positive role model for youth and to show them respectful and responsible driving techniques,” he said.
Car Torque 3777 would like those interested in having fun and tinkering with cars to register as soon as possible, as there are limited positions available for both Wednesday and Saturday sessions.
Car Torque 3777 is also eager to speak with a working or retired mechanic who can assist with Saturday morning sessions.
Information and enrolment pamphlets are available at Healesville’s Living and Learning Centre and Swinburne TAFE Healesville.
