THE Yarra Valley was greeted with another day of wonderful weather as the junior competition got underway with its first outing and the seniors played round two.
In the D J Strachan Shield at home Healesville batted first and reached 7/143 cc after its 40 overs – Scott Hamer 23, Tyson Carruthers 19 and Daniel Rogers 18 not out – as Woori Yallock’s bowlers were headed by Andrew Sharp with 4/42.
With their turn at the crease Woori Yallock also lost seven wickets but got over the line with 154 runs from its 40 overs. Again Andrew Sharp featured for the Tigers with a fine innings of 50 assisted by Tim Diggins 26. For Healesville Dan Rogers took 2/35.
In a replay of last season’s R A Finger Trophy final Launching Place United hosted Hoddles Creek. The Launching Place innings was led by Cameron Hoare with a nicely compiled 72 that saw the home side reach 9/169 cc. Allan Tazzyman (3/39) and Brenton Derix (3/30) led Hoddles Creek’s bowling.
In reply Hoddles Creek was 9/154 at the close of its allotted innings with Brenton Derix on 53 the leading scorer. Hugh Wadsorth and Rory Black both took 3/19 for LPU.
Mt Evelyn at home reached 9/166 with Luke Jones scoring 50.
Wayne Ross with 4/24 was the best of the Wandin bowlers. Wandin’s innings reached 7/178 and at the close Jason Kennedy (66) and John Aumann (37) made the most of the fine weather while for Mt Evelyn both Kane Jones and Aaron Booth bowled well taking 5/37 and 2/37 respectively.
Yarra Junction travelled to Gruyere for the first time in many years for a DJSS match. Gruyere District made 8/106cc. Brett Young was on 30 not out and Luke Sarre on 20 with Stuart Thompson took 4/35 for the Eagles assisted by David Lever with 2/10.
