FASHION has always been a way of life for Badger Creek student Alice Clements.
Sitting by her sewing machine has been a favourite pastime, and finally her hard work has paid off.
Earlier this month, Ms Clements starred at the Myer Fashion Awards, receiving top honours in the TAFE long gown category.
Embracing her love for detail, Ms Clements entered a bridal gown she was working on for Certificate three and four in Clothing Production and Diploma of Fashion and Textiles at Box Hill Institute of TAFE.
“I had always seen that other people at TAFE had entered the competition and wanted to enter,” Ms Clements said.
“It just so happened that the same time I finished the bridal gown, nominations opened up.”
Since finishing her course Ms Clements has been working part time in couture in Hawthorn and is job hunting at the moment.
“I really enjoy fitting different outfits to different people and creating designs for their shape,” Ms Clements said.
“I can’t wait to start doing more of my designs and building them from the start.”
Ms Clements said she was excited about the prospects of her future in the industry, after winning the award.
“It will give people an idea of the work I can do; it’s a great start.”
Star News Group, the Mail Newspaper Group’s parent company, was a premier sponsor of the event.
