MT EVELYN was crowned A Grade premiers in the Division One YVMDFL Grand Final.
The grand final had Woori Yallock playing against Mount Evelyn, in what was predicted to be a closer game than what the results indicate.
It has been noted prior to this game that the ladder in netball can be deceiving, as it can show teams that are close, when really their skills levels are miles apart.
However throughout the season it was Woori Yallock that would appear to be the better team, as they didn’t suffer an outright defeat, and had the momentous winning streak in their stride for a large majority of the season.
Then there was Mount Evelyn, the only team even close to deterring Woori from their winning streak.
Mount Evelyn had a great season also, while they weren’t undefeated, they had a good stand against all the other teams, with the exception of Woori.
Both teams deserved to make the grand final, but the ladder deceived again, as Mount Evelyn took the win by a total of 15 goals.
As intercepts were occurring, defence was working overtime for both teams. The girls all had to come forward; every single player was the most valuable asset to each team this week.
The competition was fierce, and the passes were strong, direct, a subtle hint of how good these two teams were.
Shannon Grey topped off a great season for Mount Evelyn, shooting 22 goals, alongside Kate Youlton who shot 18.
For Woori, Kristie Booth had a lower day this week, shooting 13 goals, and Rhonda Schrieber shooting 12.
