Top bands ready to do battle

SIX up and coming local bands will battle it out at the Soundwave Productions’ Push Start Battle of the Bands heat at Mooroolbark Community Centre on Friday 15 August.
Press Colour, The Feel Goods, Spare Liar, Technology, Suburbia Burns and Eternal Persecution will each be in the running to take out the winner’s title.
Headlining the night will be well-known band House vs Hurricane.
Yarra Ranges’ mayor Tim Heenan said the event would be a great opportunity for the six local bands to showcase their talents and gain exposure in front of an audience.
“Battle of the Bands has become a popular competition among young people in the Shire of Yarra Ranges,” Cr Heenan said.
“Starting out in the music scene is a hard business, and these events are a fantastic way for young bands to be seen and heard,” he said.
“Of course, they are also a great source of entertainment for young people wanting to hear the latest music from talented young bands in their local area.”
The winning band will receive eight hours recording time at Melbourne Records, and a guaranteed spot in the upcoming Push Start Regional Final on Friday 26 September, which will be headlined by The Getaway Plan.
Each band will receive promotional cards for their friends and family to hand in at the venue door, and the band with the most cards handed in will receive a $50 JB Hi Fi voucher.
The Battle of the Bands takes place from 6.30pm to 10.30pm and is a fully supervised event for young people aged 12-25 and is drug, alcohol and smoke-free, with no passouts available.
Entry is $10 or $8 with a pass.
