Live music fills Memo Hall

Archie Roach and Shane Howard — making music. Archie Roach and Shane Howard — making music.

By Kath Gannaway
THE SECOND of the Live Music @ Memo Hall concert series will bring Indigenous singer/songwriter Archie Roach to Healesville.
The concert series aims to inject some life into the Memorial Hall and the first concert by Tongue and Groove in July certainly did that.
Roach and Shane Howard will take to the stage on Saturday 16 August at 8pm.
Roach is a singer and songwriter of remarkable strengths and insights.
A story teller in the tradition of his ancestors, he mesmerises as he relays and retells intimate real life stories as well as traditional stories of the Dreaming.
Having survived a personal history that would have left most artists scarred and defeated, Roach, who will be joined in Healesville by musician Howard, has emerged as an extraordinarily gifted Australian artist with a truly visionary talent.
In September, the mood turns Latin with the 10-piece Latin Mestizo band San Lazaro, followed in October by Afro Mandinko, a fusion of the traditions of West Africa with contemporary Western sounds.
Details of the final concert on 15 November are still to be released.
Yarra Ranges Cultural Services, which runs Live Music and Memo Hall is offering a great package deal for music-lovers. Tickets are $20 or $17 concession, but book three or more concerts and get a 20 per cent discount on the package.
Tickets can be booked on 5966 5040.
