A NEW clinic offering a range of specialist day, rehabilitation and outreach services has opened in Lilydale.
The Yarra Ranges Health clinic, which is the newest part of Eastern Health, opened on Friday last week.
Eastern Health regional manager Robyn Trebilco said that Yarra Ranges Health, previously known as the Lilydale Super Clinic, would help the region’s larger hospitals by treating their non acute patients.
She said Yarra Ranges Health would provide day surgery, ambulatory care, including cataract removal, plastic surgery, endoscopy, oncology and general surgery.
Ms Trebilco said that while there was much discussion about the decision to remove dialysis from the services provided, she believed that the need for oncology in the Yarra Ranges outweighed the need for dialysis.
“During our studies we found that there was a huge number of residents in the Yarra Ranges who required day oncology,” Ms Trebilco said.
“We will offer six chairs for oncology treatment and will hopefully stop people having to travel as far as Box Hill or William Angliss for treatment.”
The facility will also bridge the gap for people between the ages of 12 and 25 who suffer from a range of mental health illnesses.
“We will offer a hybrid mental health service,” Ms Trebilco said.
“At the age of 15 children who deal with the mental health system are generally then put into the adult system but we are hoping to change that and help them ease into adult treatment.”
Outreach services will be offered from the site as of the 1 August, with the phasing in of services to continue over coming months.
Yarra Ranges Health is located at 25 Market Street, Lilydale.
