TARRAWARRA Museum of Art opened its 2008 Biennial with the help of Premier John Brumby and more than 300 guests last week.
Lost and Found: An Archeology of the Present includes work by 21 Australian and New Zealand artists and identifies new currents in contemporary art.
Guest curator Charlotte Day said that the artworks used historical origins and mythologies by remaking and revisiting traditional techniques and forms.
“They unsettle things,” Ms Day said.
“The exhibition features a broad range of media including painting, collage, construction, weaving, sculpture, blown-glass, wall drawing, photography, video and installation.”
Mr Brumby said that the TarraWarra Museum of Art was a world class gallery.
“The opening of this important exhibition marks a significant moment for contemporary art culture in Victoria,” Mr Brumby said.
“And this gallery allows the artworks to be shown alongside the magnificent scenery from the Yarra Valley.”
He said that it was an exciting time for the arts and gave Victorian’s another excuse to visit the Yarra Valley.
Lost and Found: An Archeology of the Present will be on show at TarraWarra Museum of Art, Healesville, until 9 November 2008.
