DINNER, art and entertainment will come together magnificently at Swinburne University’s Mitchell’s View Restaurant in Lilydale on Wednesday 20 August.
Colin Cunningham is presenting Fare, a five course dinner, at the restaurant to raise funds for Anglicare’s Boys Will Be Men program.
Colin is a third-year apprentice chef working at Stones of the Yarra Valley in conjunction with his apprenticeship studies at Swinburne.
In addition to his talent in the kitchen, Colin is a volunteer with Healesville CFA.
He became acquainted with the Boys Will Be Men program when the brigade provided some activities for the boys, and the men, at Healesville Primary School.
“I was really impressed with the program and am fully behind the philosophy that men must support at-risk boys so that they can develop helpful attitudes and responsible behaviours,” he said.
Turning to what he does best, Colin has designed a five-course menu of contemporary Australian dishes inspired by Hong Kong chef Anderson Ho. Each course will be accompanied by a Yarra Valley wine.
“There will be eight of us in the kitchen on the night and we are really looking forward to presenting an outstanding dinner for what we hope will be a full house,” he said.
Enhancing the dining experience will be an exhibition of works by Healesville artist Ken Edmunds and the beautiful voice of another Healesville talent, singer Maria Ruffino.
The cost of the dinner is $90, $50 of which will be donated by Swinburne’s Department of Hospitality and Tourism to Anglicare.
Colin said his team is looking forward to the evening.
“The opportunity to create a special menu and bring that together with the art and entertainment is very exciting,” he said.
“To be able to do all that and know you are supporting such an inspirational program as Boys Will Be Men makes it even more exciting.”
