THE Yarra Ranges is set to welcome South Africa’s Mafumani Secondary School choir on tour of Australia in August.
Fifteen rural South African students are expected to perform at the Upper Yarra Arts Centre on 13 August and at Healesville Memorial Hall on 14 August.
The young singers are looking forward to this cultural exchange where they would share their traditional South African songs and dances with Australian audiences.
Passed on through generations, Mafumani songs offer beautiful insights into life in the Limpopo province in the north east Transvaal region of South Africa.
The Limpopo river marks the borders of Botswana and Zimbabwe in the north, before running to the sea through Mozambique in the east.
This tour offers the students a unique opportunity to connect their village to the outside world and engage in cross-cultural dialogue through music.
Limited tickets will be made available to the public from Friday 1 August.
