STUDENTS from Middle Kinglake Primary School are a hop, skip and a jump away from China.
On 21 July more than 50 students at Middle Kinglake Primary School started tallying their steps in a virtual journey to Beijing.
A pedometer was given to every child participating in the Active After-School Communities (AASC) program from The Australian Sports Commission. Over 3000 schools and out of school hour care services from around Australia were participating in the activity.
“The Olympic Spirit is all about getting people together and participating and that certainly reinforces the aim of the AASC program at our school,” principal Janette Cook said
Ms Cook said the students had been waiting in anticipation to receive their pedometers.
“The Olympic Games inspire kids of all backgrounds. It gets kids watching, thinking and talking about sport and motives them to get out there and be active,” AASC Regional Coordinator Trish Bennett said.
The AASC program is free for primary school children. The project is an initiative created by the Australian Government run by the Australian Sports Commission. It aims to encourage children to become more physically active and enjoy the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
