IT’S time for residents of Healesville and surrounds to get their groove on.
A new project funded by RecLink Australia, inspired by the Choir of Hard Knocks and run by singer Leah Marlowe, is starting in Healesville next month.
The RecLink Rocky Road Choir is calling for anyone experiencing social or economical disadvantages and with an interest for singing to join them.
The Come and Try singing afternoon will be held on Wednesday 6 August at 2pm at the Healesville Memorial Hall, 213 Maroondah Highway, Healesville.
The activity is free and afternoon tea with be provided.
Choir leader Leah Marlowe said attending the Come and Try would give people the chance to sing some fun catchy and uplifting songs and find out more about the vision for the RecLink Rocky Road Choir.
“Everyone is welcome, we offer a friendly, safe and supportive space and no choir experience is necessary,” Ms Marlowe said.
On-going sessions with commence in August.
Jeannie, a member of the choir, said she has found the sessions uplifting, rewarding and inspiring.
“At first I was very nervous about my confidence and my voice but Leah is very encouraging and makes everyone feel really welcome,” said Jeannie.
Bruce, another member, said that singing is a universal language for everyone in the group.
“Through singing with the group it breaks down barriers for me and it really beings people together,” Bruce said.
“It is very uplifting and liberating.”
