HEALESVILLE RSL has donated $1400 to Badger Creek Primary School, following the school’s participation in the Anzac Day march in April.
The money will be used to purchase new musical instruments and assist in the setting up of a music scholarship.
The donation was presented in a school assembly in June, to applause from students and staff.
When Healesville RSL senior vice president Arthur Ford asked the school music teacher Jenny Legg earlier this year for “a drummer or two” to accompany the RSL’s Anzac Day march, he never dreamed what would be offered in return.
“Jenny asked if we wanted a 20-piece band and a choir to match,” Mr Ford said.
Overwhelmed by the school’s support, the RSL decided to return the favour.
“All the children involved can hold their heads up high,” Mr Ford said. “They did an amazing job. It really makes you proud to see the younger generations wanting to take part”.
Badger Creek Principal Garry Embry said the $1400 gift was “incredibly kind” and would benefit the school’s music program”.
