STUDENTS at Hoddles Creek didn’t have to be roped into having a crack at setting a world record.
At 11.30am on 9 May the school’s 56 students and two staff members jumped in feet first, joining 70,000 skippers throughout Australia in the Heart Foundation Jump Rope for Heart world record attempt.
The attempt was organised to celebrate 25 years of the Jump Rope for Heart event, which is held each year at schools throughout Australia to raise funds for heart research and to teach students the importance of heart health.
The challenge was to skip non-stop for three minutes and teacher Leanne Woolley said from prep through to grade six the boys and girls showed they were prepared to put everything into it.
“I have been amazed at the number of students practising their skipping at recess and lunchtime,” she said. “I am very proud of all the students for getting in there and having a go.”
The verdict is still out on the Guinness World Record attempt but there is no doubt at all that in terms of fund-raising the school has achieved a personal best and a school record.
“We raised $1706.25 which is a great achievement for a small school,” Ms Woolley said.
