YARRA Glen Primary School’s rural setting goes hand-in-hand with its progressive approach to education.
The school, on 3.2 hectares, has excellent grounds including a large oval, junior and senior playgrounds, grass and asphalt playing areas, basketball and a tennis court as well as gardens and established trees.
In this beautiful setting, the school also offers a comprehensive and well-balanced curriculum covering all learning areas.
Highly trained and experienced staff lead the way in literacy and numeracy, music, art, library services and Italian through the school’s LOTE (Languages Other than English) program. Physical education and health, individual learning plans and effective prep testing and diagnosis are also part of the curriculum.
Other programs such as perceptual motor program, brain gym and bridges, a program which provides individual student support in reading, writing and oral language, special education and integration aide support, add another level of support for students and families.
School-based training for parents to assist in the classroom is available and encouraged.
Health and well-being is a high priority and catered for in a variety of ways from effective yard duty supervision and anti-bullying policies to a healthy eating plan, hydration policy, peer mediation, buddies and before and after school care facilities.
Additional support is available from the pastoral care team – school nurse, speech pathologist, psychologist and language consultants.
Communication with parents includes a weekly newsletter, grade newsletters, planners and communication books.
Upholding the school’s “mission” are a range of values, which develop a positive environment, which promotes human growth and learning.
That mission is “to challenge children to strive for excellence by providing foundations for life-long learning in a safe supportive environment that engages and involves all, in a learning process that celebrates achievement, values differences and builds community”.
