SATURDAY was a real cricket day; cloudless skies, warm weather and green ovals everywhere.
In the D. J. Strachan Shield, Woori Yallock travelled to Coldstream and batted first in this one-day round and after the allotted 40 overs were 7/190cc – Andrew Sharp (64) and Danny Hyndman (24) leading the Woori charge while Walliker and Lambert both took 2 wickets.
After the tea interval, Coldstream batted but could only manage 108 runs (Lambert 24), while again Hyndman and Sharp were the best players for the Woori Tigers with 4/26 and 4/24 respectively.
In the Healesville versus Mount Evelyn match at Queens Park, Mount Evelyn were dismissed for 155 (Luke Jones 55 not out, Kane Jones 35) with Darren Edwards 2/7 and Alan Pearce 3/26 bowling well for Healesville.
Healesville, in reply, could only manage 104 runs as Darren Edwards completed a good day with 25 assisted by Scott Hamer 21. Aaron Booth 3/23 and Shane Luck 3/26 again bowled well for Mount Evelyn.
In other matches, Yarra Junction defeated Seville, Wandin defeated Yarra Panthers and Warburton defeated Silvan.
In the R. A. Finger Trophy, Wandin playing at home, reached 174 (S. Black 67, A. Oxley 47, Grindley 6/45) but lost to Launching Place United as they reached 7/215cc, (Cameron Hoare 92 and Steve McIntyre 3/38).
At Seville, the home side batted first and reached 8/189cc. Leading the way was Paul Dicello with a fine 81. G. Searle took 3/28 for Yarra Junction who were all out for 175 with Josh Nightingale 43 and Justin Arnold 3/34.
Healesville made first use of the wicket at the Mount Evelyn Cricket Ground and were 7/249 at the end of the allotted 40 overs. Richard Maile 71, Aaron Smith 65 and Will Maile 31 all batting well, while Chris Doyle 4/40 and Peter Kerr 2/65 used the ball well for the home team.
Mount Evelyn, in reply, could only manage 113 with Alex Argentino 39 and Jason Fellows 22 getting the bulk of the runs as Will Maile 4/26, Shambrook 4/41 and A.Thorson 2/5 took the wickets.
Hoddles Creek managed 6/147cc at Warburton where Brenton Derix 57, Mick Batten 24 and B. Taylor 2/37 defeated Warburton-Millgrove, who were dismissed for 125.
L. Moran 42, B. Taylor 34, and to complete a good day Derix took 4/39 assisted by Jeff Crew 4/31.
Woori Yallock played host to Gruyere Districts who batted first and were 9/121cc with Dale Hopkinson 23, Bret Young 23, Dennis Dunn 4/19, and B. Hayes 2/35. That score was not enough as Woori Yallock managed 9/139cc with Dean Worlley 49, Matt Worlley 24, R Gibson 3/28 and Matt Tilney 3/32.

The YVCA Under 18 and 21 teams will shortly take to the field in the Region 8 competition.
The U21 side will be announced early this week and sent to clubs, but the U18s is still seeking nominations and information on prospective players, as clubs need to have nominations in this week.
Veterans’ cricket commences on Sunday 28 October when Wandin host Woori Yallock, Coldstream host Warburton-Millgrove and Yarra Junction host Launching Place United.
