A NUMBER of old-fashioned cars chugged their way into Healesville on the weekend for the 8th annual Vintage Car Rally at Yarra Track Winery.
The event was hosted for the Vintage Sports Car Club of Victoria, which entered around 36 cars all dating back to the 1920s and 30s.
It was the perfect day to show off the shiny vehicles, some of which were worth well over $100,000, with fine conditions prevailing.
The event’s organiser Diana Viggers said the day was a huge success.
“We had a lot more spectators this year,” Ms Viggers said. “There were lots of families, young boys and children watching this time.”
Spectators were able to bring a picnic or enjoy a platter catered by the winery as they watched the event.
The competition is based on what is called the Observed Section, in which drivers need to rely on their manoeuvring skills.
“They have to navigate their way through a set of flags and if they stall or go backwards they are disqualified,” Ms Viggers said.
Set on a luxurious 80 acres of property visitors were also able to explore the vineyard and cellar door.
“It’s a chance to talk to the owners and check out the cars on display as well as enjoy the magnificent view,” Ms Viggers said.
“It’s a great place to host these events because it’s not too far out of Melbourne.”
Other motor vehicle events at Yarra Track Winery include the Austin Healy Race on Australia Day and an upcoming Show and Shine day in September for the Fiat Club of Victoria to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
