The fresh food place

GEOFF and Margaret McBride have been in business in Yarra Glen for almost 30 years. It’s eight years in February since they took over the Yarra Glen IGA store.
They are certainly part and parcel of the developing Yarra Glen and district community and, a visit to their busy supermarket will leave you in no doubt that the McBride IGA supermarket, is very much the hub of that community.
Geoff and Margaret pride themselves on the fact they have established a very successful family business with their son Brad, daughter Elisa and her partner, Cam, and Margaret’s sister, Wendy, all involved on a day to day basis. They take equal pride in the fact they provide employment for up to 20 local staff members.
The business has grown steadily over the past eight years with recent improvements including new refrigeration in the liquor section, an impressive overhaul of the fruit and vegetable section, and an expanding range in groceries including a growing healthfood section.
“It’s an ongoing job,” said Geoff. “We’re always looking to improve.”
The next major improvement is a new meat cabinet, which will be installed soon.
Geoff said providing fresh, quality product is their number one priority throughout the store.
“We will always supply the best product possible at a reasonable price,” he said.
The McBride family and their staff have a reputation for helpful, friendly service with the sort of local flavour which is appreciated by their regular customers, and a welcome surprise for visitors.
The shop’s deli, which is expanding in its range continually, is a favourite with tourists who stop to put together their picnic hampers or try some of the delicious cheeses and small goods available.
Geoff said he and his family don’t take the support of the Yarra Glen community for granted and are proud and strong supporters of local schools, community and sporting groups. They are a major sponsor of the local CFA, in particular.
