STUDENTS from Gladysdale Primary School recently took top honours in the Schools Archery Competition held at the Yarra Valley Archery Park in Launching Place.
Competing against teams from Warburton, Woori Yallock, Gruyere, Launching Place, Dixons Creek and Coldstream, the Gladysdale archers excelled to take home the perpetual trophy – a first for the school.
Grade five and six students take part in four weeks of tuition and practice in the lead up to the final competition day.
Ian Simmonds, owner and head coach at the Archery Park, said the competition has been running for eight years and is well supported by local schools.
“We get a lot of kids who would not have tried archery before and by the end of the four weeks you can certainly see the improvement,” he said.
Mr Simmonds said every year they also get kids coming back after their first experience of archery to continue with the sport.
