MARYSVILLE was among the areas hardest hit when storms hit the Yarra Valley and surrounding mountain areas last week.
Emergency services including SES, CFA, Shire of Yarra Ranges DSE and Parks Victoria crews and police were pressed into action from early Tuesday night to the early hours of the next morning with a massive cleanup job continuing over the next few days.
Marysville SES support officer Ian Walters said the first of about 40 calls for assistance came through at 6.30pm.
He said one house had to be evacuated and the resident was lucky to escape injury when a tree fell onto his bedroom causing considerable damage.
“We had trees 1.5 metres in diameter blowing out of the ground, so you could say they were pretty strong winds.
“At one house we had to clear 27 trees so the people could get out of their driveway.
“Half a dozen cars were trapped at Karami Gardens Resort including two where trees landed on the roofs.”
Karami Gardens manager Ian Borehan told the Mail on Friday things were getting back to normal after much of the town had been without electricity until Wednesday with others still not connected up until Thursday.
Myers Creek Road to Toolangi was closed to traffic until Thursday with local businesses and residents left without power until about 10.30pm on Wednesday.
Many, relying on electric pumps for water supply, were also without water.
